Serve with Audacity

Feb 1, 2026    Pastor Kevin Allen

This message centers on the powerful story of Nehemiah, an ordinary cupbearer who became an extraordinary servant when he heard about Jerusalem's broken walls. What makes this narrative so compelling is that Nehemiah wasn't a prophet or priest—he was simply someone who allowed God to break his heart for what broke God's heart. When he heard about the ruins, he didn't scroll past the news or spiritualize it away. Instead, he sat down and wept, fasted, and prayed for days. This sermon challenges us to examine our own response to brokenness around us. When was the last time we were truly bothered by the spiritual state of our city, our nation, or even our own families? The message draws a striking parallel between Nehemiah's burden and our modern tendency to numb ourselves through entertainment and distraction. We live in a culture where we can control the narrative through Netflix, podcasts, and social media, effectively insulating ourselves from the reality that the world is desperately in need of God's truth. The call here is clear: serving doesn't start with a clipboard or a volunteer form—it starts with a burden. It begins when we allow ourselves to feel what God feels about the broken walls around us. Every person has a section of wall to rebuild, a unique place in God's kingdom where their talents, abilities, and passions intersect with His purpose. The question isn't whether we're qualified, but whether we're willing.
