What Child is This?
This powerful exploration of Luke 2 challenges us to move beyond the familiar nativity scene and truly answer the question: 'What child is this?' We're invited to see Jesus not merely as the baby in the manger we've grown accustomed to seeing on Christmas cards, but as five profound realities that demand our full attention. First, He was fully human—born through real labor, wrapped in swaddling clothes, completely dependent on human hands. Second, this helpless infant was simultaneously the Creator of the universe, the Word who spoke galaxies into existence. Third, He came as our Savior, not just a teacher or miracle worker, but as a substitute who took our place on the cross. Fourth, He is the empowering God who doesn't just forgive us but indwells us through His Spirit, transforming us from the inside out. Finally, and perhaps most sobering, He is the returning King who will come in judgment with eyes of flame and fire. This message reminds us that Christianity isn't about behavior modification—it's about total transformation. The cross represents full commitment, not partial dedication. As we celebrate this season surrounded by nativity scenes and Christmas festivities, we must ask ourselves: Are we still truly thirsty for Him? Do we know Him as Lord of all, or have we simply made Him Lord of the convenient parts of our lives?
